Basic Quail Care
1. Temperature
- Day 1–7: 95°F
- Reduce 5°F each week
- At 5 weeks: no heat needed
- If they pile up → cold
- If they spread away → hot
2. Feeding
- Starter feed 30% protein
- Fresh feed daily
- No corn, seeds, or treats for chicks
3. Water
- Warm water first days
- Electrolytes for first 48 hours
- Use shallow drinkers to avoid drowning
- Change water twice a day
4. Space
- Week 1: ½ sq ft per 10 chicks
- Increase space at 3 weeks
- Dry, non‑slippery flooring
- No drafts
5. Cleanliness
- Paper towels first 3–5 days
- Then wire or large shavings
- Clean spills immediately
- No ammonia smell
6. Lighting
- First 48 hours: continuous light
- Then 16 hours light / 8 hours dark
- Avoid strong lights
7. Handling
- Handle gently
- Avoid loud noises
- Check daily: eyes, legs, breathing
8. Warning Signs
- Piling → cold
- Scattered → hot
- Droopy wings → dehydration
- Noisy breathing → humidity or dust
- Diarrhea → check feed and water
