Basic Quail Care

1. Temperature

• Day 1–7: 95°F
• Reduce 5°F each week
• At 5 weeks: no heat needed
• If they pile up → cold
• If they spread away → hot

2. Feeding

• Starter feed 30% protein
• Fresh feed daily
• No corn, seeds, or treats for chicks

3. Water

• Warm water first days
• Electrolytes for first 48 hours
• Use shallow drinkers to avoid drowning
• Change water twice a day

4. Space

• Week 1: ½ sq ft per 10 chicks
• Increase space at 3 weeks
• Dry, non‑slippery flooring
• No drafts

5. Cleanliness

• Paper towels first 3–5 days
• Then wire or large shavings
• Clean spills immediately
• No ammonia smell

6. Lighting

• First 48 hours: continuous light
• Then 16 hours light / 8 hours dark
• Avoid strong lights

7. Handling

• Handle gently
• Avoid loud noises
• Check daily: eyes, legs, breathing

8. Warning Signs

• Piling → cold
• Scattered → hot
• Droopy wings → dehydration
• Noisy breathing → humidity or dust
• Diarrhea → check feed and water
